Locked Out

Do you ever do something that you don’t normally do? Like lock a door you never lock?

James was out of town, and I figured that it’d be very smart of me to lock the back door into the garage. I’m not sure why I felt like this was a brilliant idea, but I did, at the time. I locked the door before I went to bed. I slept. I got up. I went to the grocery store. And with armfuls of heavy, frozen groceries, I turned the knob.

Nothing.

Shit.

I had no extra key. I tried jamming a credit card into the lock. I tried everything I could thing of… So finally, I had to call a locksmith, and while he didn’t speak English very well (he was Italian), he was very hot to look at.

This poor man tried for an hour to break into my house. I paid him over $100 to drill my old knob off, let me into the house and put a new knob on.

Lesson? Leave the door unlocked. It’ll be fine.

about the author

Emily (n.) 1983 - Present

A loud-laughing twenty-something female who prefers flip flops to all other shoes, yet has a closet full that go unworn. Can often be found in front of a computer screen designing websites or playing "The Sims". Hates messes, cancelled plans and loud volumes. Loves suffocating summer heat, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (now with banana) and friends who know what you’re going to say before you ever open your mouth.

Warning: often speaks too quickly; listen carefully.
