The New York Department of Health hands out free NYC-packaged condoms, so we walked over there on our fourth day in town to secure two handfuls as silly souvenirs. (Hey – nobody ever said our sense of humor was normal.)
After that, we did a bit of shopping at Macy’s and a few other places. The Macy’s shoe department is breathtaking. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many pretty shoes in one place in my entire life. The store itself is enormous – five floors at least – and it consumes and entire not-at-all-small city block. They even managed to preserve the wooden escalators which I thought was a neat idea.
That afternoon, we stopped at a place in the village that serves seventy five different flavors of tea. I had Tazo Bubble Tea which looked like coffee and had giant balls of yogurt in it that were the consistency of gummy bears which tasted like vanilla.
We went through some of the shops in the village, too – Murray’s and Amy’s Bakery were fun to see as well as souvenir shops and other odd stores.
I’m not sure why, exactly, but Mom and I decided that Dad needed to get a tattoo. Surprisingly enough, we investigated a couple of shops near Colleen’s, and he decided he’s actually do it. Chico, the guy who actually did the tattoo, was insanely slow, but for a chunk of time and $150, Dad walk away with a Dark Side of the Moon prism tattoo.
