WW Week 1: Looking Back

Over the weekend, my mom and I went to Austin which meant that we’d miss our first Weight Watchers weigh in day. Not wanting to miss it, we went to the Sunday meeting instead. Mom lost 1.8 pounds; I lost 4 pounds.

I joined weight watchers to support my mother – to be her cheerleader, to help her, to encourage her. If I lose weight, great. If not – that’s ok, too. I’m really in this for her.

I think that this week, she felt defeated. She wanted to lose 4 pounds, too. She doesn’t think she was as successful as I was. We chatted with our group leader, though, and I think she’s feeling better about things.

Everyone at the meeting said, “How was week 1?” I feel like all I do is eat. I’ve had more fruit and dairy in the past week than I’ve had in the past month. I’m cramming in five fruits and veggies per day, two servings of dairy, a zillion glasses of water (ok, fine – it’s only eight), a multi vitamin and tallying points like it’s going out of style. While there were a few frustrating moments when I thought, “This is ridiculous,” I caught myself and thought – you know what? They give me extra points for a reason. I can use them as needed. There’s no reason to be a hero and only use the 20 points I’m given per day. You know?

And I guess it paid off, ‘cause I’m down 4 pounds, which is exciting. It was easier than I thought it’d be. I lost more than I thought I’d lose. If anything, the meeting has made me more excited about the upcoming weeks.

Is it ok if I share this weight loss journey with you guys? When I was losing twenty five pounds last year, I kept it a secret. And I just wonder if any of you are out there, doing the same thing or if any of you are unhappy with how you feel.

Share away! If anything, your story will be inspirational.

My weight loss has slowed lately because my jogging slowed down due to Jake's travel schedule. And his traveling always makes me eat like crap. I need to get it back on track! Reading your story will help me so keep it up!

Chas :

I am not trying to lose weight, but I am all for you blogging about your journey. I don't mind reading about it at all. I can't even imagine counting points...sounds cumbersome.

sarah :

I'm down 10 pounds since early September thanks to WW. It IS hard, but worth it. I'm certainly interested in reading your updates. If you find that others aren't, we can be WW email buddies.

Maggie :

I'd be happy to hear about your journey. One of my closest friends from colllege has had great success on Weight Watchers, as has my mom.

A loud-laughing twenty-something female who prefers flip flops to all other shoes, yet has a closet full that go unworn. Can often be found in front of a computer screen designing websites or playing "The Sims". Hates messes, cancelled plans and loud volumes. Loves suffocating summer heat, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (now with banana) and friends who know what you’re going to say before you ever open your mouth.

Warning: often speaks too quickly; listen carefully.
