WW Week 3: Looking Back

I skipped my Week 2 recap because my weeks got all funny and backwards due to a day trip out of town, causing me to miss my meeting. We’re back on track now with the Week 3 recap.

I was at the meeting early this morning, chatting with other members, and we really had the best time joking about this lifestyle change. I, for instance, was telling everyone that I had been to Whataburger with a friend of mine. I opted for the junior burger meal, no cheese. After it was eaten, I calculated the meal – an astonishing (and disheartening) 16 points which is a lot, as I only get 20 per day. I was so ashamed! But! I learned my lesson: it was totally not worth it. Everyone enjoyed this perspective on things. It helped remind all of us to think before we eat.

Something I’ve noticed in the few weeks I’ve been doing this is that it’s very difficult to reshape your mind. It’s hard to train yourself to be satisfied at seeing smaller portions when they are put in front of you. Yes, they are yummy, and yes, at the end of consuming them, you are full. But when you start out? Sometimes, your meal looks awfully puny. You feel cheated when everyone around you is stuffing their face with fried chicken and mashed potatoes. It’s essential to keep your goal in mind – a better lifestyle and healthier you.

This week was a triumphant one for me – I got my first five pound star. Five pound stars are given out every time you lose five pounds. You put them on a bookmark you receive your second week as a WW member. Additionally, stars that say “Bravo” are given out whenever you share something valuable with the group or recognize a non-scale victory. Today’s star was the first of what I hope will be several.

I know of only one of you that is a WW member, but I still think it’s important that we all remember to do something good for ourselves. What did you do for yourself this week?

Good for you!

I ran the Turkey Trot and pretended that it negated all the calories I consumed the rest of the day, but somehow I don't think it was enough to combat my mom's stuffing and green bean casserole.

1. I got out of bed and went to the gym Thursday morning. I'd planned to go again today after making it back home, but didn't. Not going to dwell on that though.

2. The only thing I got a second helping of at the official Thanksgiving meal was fruit salad.

Emily (n.) 1983 - Present

A loud-laughing twenty-something female who prefers flip flops to all other shoes, yet has a closet full that go unworn. Can often be found in front of a computer screen designing websites or playing "The Sims". Hates messes, cancelled plans and loud volumes. Loves suffocating summer heat, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (now with banana) and friends who know what you’re going to say before you ever open your mouth.

Warning: often speaks too quickly; listen carefully.
