I'm not sure why people like one over the other or why, even, people have a preference. Knockers always knock. Ringers always ring. I ring, for those who are curious, because I don't always hear the knock at my home, and I don't want people I am visiting to wonder, "Was that a knock? Is she here?" So now I'm curious: do you knock or do you ring? |

I'm a ringer. And whenever knockers come over (heh), I worry that the doorbell is broken.

Ring, definitely.
But I find at my house that some people can't seem to find the doorbell at my house. I don't know why - it's not hidden or anything.

I do both. If I know they have a small child that might be asleep, I knock. I also knock if they have an indoor dog, b/c the bell seems to rile them up. For general situations, I ring the bell.
