Hi! Come On In!

Friends that come to my house have an "I'm here!" alert preference. Some friends prefer to knock, others prefer the doorbell.

I'm not sure why people like one over the other or why, even, people have a preference. Knockers always knock. Ringers always ring.

I ring, for those who are curious, because I don't always hear the knock at my home, and I don't want people I am visiting to wonder, "Was that a knock? Is she here?"

So now I'm curious: do you knock or do you ring?

sarah :

I'm a ringer. And whenever knockers come over (heh), I worry that the doorbell is broken.

donna :

Ring, definitely.

But I find at my house that some people can't seem to find the doorbell at my house. I don't know why - it's not hidden or anything.

Chas :

I do both. If I know they have a small child that might be asleep, I knock. I also knock if they have an indoor dog, b/c the bell seems to rile them up. For general situations, I ring the bell.

about the author

Emily (n.) 1983 - Present

A loud-laughing twenty-something female who prefers flip flops to all other shoes, yet has a closet full that go unworn. Can often be found in front of a computer screen designing websites or playing "The Sims". Hates messes, cancelled plans and loud volumes. Loves suffocating summer heat, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (now with banana) and friends who know what you’re going to say before you ever open your mouth.

Warning: often speaks too quickly; listen carefully.

Where would a girl be without friends? I love 'em for a reason. Stop by. Say hello. Tell them I sent you.
