My days aren’t rigidly structured. Every day I go to work, and I come home from work. Sometimes, between those two, I have dinner with a friend or run an errand, but for the most part I go and come back. It’s pretty simple.
By the end of the day, I have talked to at least sixteen people. If I have answered the telephones that day, I have talked to more. I have solved problems, sent emails, checked items off of my seemingly endless to do list. By the end of the day, I have no desire to be social. I don’t want to call anyone and have a chat.
I think I’m the only person that feels this way with the exception of one friend who hates to talk on the phone, period. People call in the evening and want to talk about what’s been going on. People want to catch up. At seven in the evening, I don’t want to catch up. I want to watch TV while I work out, take a shower and go to bed.
Now – there are exceptions to this. My sister, for instance, can only talk to me in the evening. And, you know, since she’s my sister and also my very good friend, I like talking to her. I think she’s neat. The only time we can talk is in the evenings. I am perfectly ok with this.
I’m just wondering – does everyone you know call you when you get home to catch up? Do you want to have a chat with them about your new kitchen faucet or the great clothes they got on sale at Macy’s? Or do you just want to say, “I love you, but I really just don’t wanna talk right now…”
Is it just me?Sorry, I’m Not Home Right Now

I'm not a big phone person. I never really want to chat. I want to convey information and get off. So, from that perspective, you're not alone.

I'm not much of a phone talker in general. I like to talk to my brother and my mom. I have to force myself to talk to my friends for more than ten minutes...it doesn't make a difference what time of day it is.

For me, as long as I'm not actually HOME yet I don't mind talking on the phone after work. It's common for me to give someone a call while I'm walking out to my car, and then chat on the way home and get off the phone when I arrive. But if I call someone and end up leaving them a message while I'm on my way home from work, chances are I won't answer if they don't call back until after I'm home.
