The Bikini Winter

I was strolling through Target this weekend when I spotted the unthinkable... Bikinis. It's January. The highs are under 60 degrees. We're still wearing wool, for crying out loud. Who decides these things? It's nowhere near bikini season!

Similarly, do you notice decorations in stores? As soon as Thanksgiving goes down, Christmas goes up. When Christmas comes down, Valentine's goes up, and when it comes down, Easter will go up. It's just one decoration after the next. I wonder how many folks actually buy that stuff.

Do you know - Spree used to make these heart-shaped candies, all red and white, at Valentine's. They were - hands down - my favorite candy of all time. I looked forward to them every single year. And do you know - about three years ago, they were discontinued? I'm thinking of writing a mean, nasty letter.

But back on topic - am I the only one that thinks a bikini in January is uncalled for?

Yeah, the retailers need to get with the idea that no one buys their whole spring wardrobe in advance of spring anymore.

Of course the advantage we have of their current plan is that by the time we actually do want to wear what they are selling, it's gone on sale.

Plus the bikinis may be a weight loss motivator and those tiny college wenches are planning their spring break trips to Daytona and Padre right now....

Chas :

I saw the swim suits at Target too. I guess whether it's called for or not depends on whether they're selling any. I could see a college student who has spring break in early March going ahead and getting her swimsuit in mid-January.

Anyway, I actually was at Walmart a day or two before Christmas and they already had the Valentine's stuff out...it was a little confusing for me at first b/c it was all red, and I was expecting Christmas stuff, but the hearts seemed odd. I honestly didn't realize it was V Day stuff at first...it was just so unexpected.

Were they, perhaps, wool bikinis?

Maggie :

I also took note of the bikinis in Target a few weeks ago, but I actually thought that was just b/c I'm in San Diego and they pretty much carry bikinis year 'round. I didn't realize they were in stock across the nation!
